Barista Training in the Coffee Industry

Have you ever wondered how your favorite barista knows how to make the perfect espresso, mocha, latte, etc for you?  Most of you probably assume some training is involved, but where does that training occur?

We are Madres Espresso, serving the Greater Olympia area with our flagship coffee stand on Cooper Point, and our newest coffee stand on Pacific Ave. Stop by and find out what great customer service is all about.

Many options for training.

Our preferred option in Olympia.

All baristas hired at Madres Espresso have already undergone training, but we still prefer to send them to Batdorf, downtown, for a refresher training course.  Mind you, they are already trained, they already know how to do the job, but we are of the belief that you can never get enough training.

What happens at these training courses? From the Batdorf website, this explanation of their introductory course:

“This course is ideal for new baristas and can be used as a refresher for your experienced team. Students learn to dose, pull and taste a shot; steam milk to the optimal temperature and texture; make proper grind adjustments; develop daily cleaning habits and troubleshoot when something goes awry.”

Is it necessary if a barista is already trained? Stop by and visit us.  Taste the quality of your drink. We are confident you will think it is high quality, and that high quality comes from a professional barista who is always trying to improve their craft . . . and the training at Batdorf helps in that improvement process.

A final word about Madres Espresso.

As mentioned before, our baristas are already trained when we hire them.   It is not necessary for us to send them to another training course.  But going beyond what is necessary is the way we rock n’ roll at Madres Espresso.

Locally owned and operated; stop by and experience, for yourself, what dedication to excellence looks like in a coffee stand.
